Every road trip has a starting point, and for our Palawan adventure, ours began in Puerto Princesa.
When I won a 2-night and 3-day stay at Club Agutaya during the 2026 ITF, I initially thought it would simply be a quick Palawan getaway.
But the three of us had a different idea.
Since we were already flying to Palawan, why not explore more?
So instead of flying straight home after our Club Agutaya stay, we planned a 10-day Palawan road trip covering Puerto Princesa, San Vicente, Port Barton and El Nido.
And Puerto Princesa became our starting point.
Landing in Puerto Princesa
We flew to Puerto Princesa, where we decided to spend our first night before beginning our road trip.
It was actually a good decision because we didn't want to land and immediately spend hours on the road.
We wanted to rest first, get ourselves organized and prepare for the adventure ahead.
At the airport, Our rented SUV is was already waiting for us. Then we drove to our hotel, freshened up and had dinner at the famous Ka Joel.
And that's when it started to feel real.
We had a car.
We had our bags.
We had our route.
And we had 10 days ahead of us.
Why We Rented an SUV
Since there were three of us, renting our own vehicle made sense.
We wanted the freedom to move around without being tied to a tour schedule.
Our SUV became our little home on the road.
There were snacks inside, drinks, bags, cameras and, of course, lots of conversations.
One of the things I enjoyed most was simply being inside the car with my friends.
Someone would drive, someone would navigate and someone would inevitably be looking for something to eat.
It was simple, but those were some of the moments that made the trip fun.
Driving Around Palawan
Coming from Cebu, driving around Palawan felt different.
There was no usual city traffic that we were accustomed to.
Once we were on the highway, there were long stretches where we could simply drive and enjoy the scenery.
Of course, some destinations required us to travel farther away from the main highway, so the road trip wasn't always quick.
But we didn't mind.
We weren't in a hurry.
The drive itself became part of the experience.
We talked, laughed, ate snacks and watched the scenery change outside the window.
Puerto Princesa Was Only the Beginning
Our stay in Puerto Princesa was short because our main destination was San Vicente, where Club Agutaya was waiting for us.
From Puerto Princesa, we started our drive toward San Vicente.
And that's when our real Palawan road trip began.
From there, we would continue to Port Barton and eventually El Nido, where we stayed for four nights.
Looking back, I'm glad we didn't simply make this a quick resort trip.
Because Puerto Princesa wasn't just our arrival point.
It was the place where we picked up our car, packed our things and officially started one of our most memorable road trips.
Three friends. One SUV. Ten days. Four destinations.
And this was only Day One.
