DITO Telecommunity Supports Palarong Pambansa 2024: Celebrating Filipino Talent and Excellence

Cebu City – DITO Telecommunity is excited to co-present this year's Palarong Pambansa, underscoring its dedication to youth development, sports excellence, and national pride. Taking place from July 11-16, 2024, in Cebu City, this partnership marks a key achievement for DITO, reflecting its commitment to enhancing Filipino communities through advanced technology and connectivity.

At a press conference with local Cebu media, DITO executives elaborated on their sponsorship of the event, emphasizing their support for youth athletes and sports development in the region.

Evelyn Jimenez, DITO Chief Revenue Officer for Consumer, highlighted the broader mission behind DITO’s involvement. “DITO Telecommunity is more than a telecommunications provider. Alongside offering next-generation technology and value-for-money products, we are dedicated to empowering Filipino communities,” Jimenez said. “Our collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd) for this year's Palarong Pambansa reinforces DITO’s role as a leader in youth development and sports excellence in the Philippines.”

**Improving the Event with Cutting-Edge Technology**


Retired Major General Rodolfo “Genboy” Santiago, DITO Chief Technology Officer, discussed how DITO is enhancing the Palarong Pambansa experience with advanced technology. “To enhance the experience for our athletes this year, we’ve equipped the various headquarters and gaming venues with our high-speed 5G connectivity,” Santiago announced. “Our standalone 5G technology offers greater capacity, wider coverage, and internet speeds 20 times faster than 4G.”

Santiago also shared updates on DITO’s network expansion. “We started the year with over 7,000 cell sites across 830 cities. Currently, our network covers 84 percent of the area, and we aim to reach about 87 percent coverage by year-end,” he added. Additionally, DITO has provided 19,000 SIM cards, deployed mobile cell sites, and ensured Wi-Fi in billeting areas and headquarters.

He described “Galing DITO” as having three meanings: first, “GA-ling,” denoting origin; second, “ga-LING,” highlighting homegrown Filipino talent; and third, “Galing DITO,” reflecting the superior quality of DITO’s products and services. Evangelista noted, “Once people experience our products and services, they will say, ‘ang galing!’”
